PHILIPPINES

EcoPlanet Bamboo is implementing the 8,400 hectare Lanao Bamboo Reforestation Project, on the island of Mindanao, in the Philippines.
This carbon financed, nature based solutions project is restoring extremely degraded and challenging high altitude and mountainous terrain. 2.5 million clumps of native Dendrocalamus asper and a further 1 million seedlings of tree species native to the original montane forests are targeted for planting between 2022 - 2025. These forest restoration activities will generate significant carbon emission removals over the next 20 year period while reducing soil erosion and protecting the surrounding watersheds that supply the surrounding food production areas of Mindanao's lowlands.
The Lanao Bamboo Reforestation Project is creating long term employment opportunities in an area that has received little development to date and where poverty levels are high. Additional activities include the transfer of improved farming technologies to more than 300 households.
