EcoPlanet Bamboo is implementing the 8,400 hectare Lanao Bamboo Reforestation Project, on the island of Mindanao, in the Philippines.

This carbon financed, nature based solutions project is restoring approximately 5,000 hectares of extremely degraded mountainous terrain with native Dendrocalamus asper bamboo and a further 1,200 hectares with tree species native to the original montane forests. Reforestation activities are ongoing between 2022 - 2025 with the first 1,300 hectares planted to date.

These forest restoration activities will generate significant carbon emission removals over the next 20 year period while reducing soil erosion and protecting the surrounding watersheds that supply the surrounding food production areas of Mindanao's lowlands. The project is successfully registered on the Verra Registry.

The Lanao Bamboo Reforestation Project is creating long term employment opportunities in an area that has received little development to date and where poverty levels are high. Additional activities include the transfer of improved farming technologies to more than 300 households.
