Troy Wiseman At Initiative 20x20 Annual Meeting
6th March 2017
Last week in Cali, Colombia more than 100 partners gathered to share progress on the ambitious targets that Latin American nations, through Initiative 20x20 made to achieving 20 million hectares of landscape restoration across the continent, by 2020.
The high level meeting, which included ministers and government representatives from across Central and South American nations provided an opportunity for country members, technical partners and private investors to share information on their national forest and landscape restoration objectives, plans and achievements. The meeting was also an opportunity to identify potential collaboration pathways between members and plan next steps to achieve regional restoration goals.
EcoPlanet Bamboo CEO Troy Wiseman shared the company's progress in achieving the company's restoration goals in Nicaragua as well as highlighting potential opportunities for the experiences learnt over the past six years to be scaled up both nationally in Nicaragua and across other potential locations in Latin America. EcoPlanet Bamboo believes firmly in an integrated strategy, combining landscape scale restoration with the provision of a secure, sustainable and certified fiber that can disrupt global timber and fiber industries and supply chains, thereby reducing further forest degradation and deforestation. Wiseman provided the panel with updates on EcoPlanet Bamboo's progress in achieving this fully integrated strategy.
EcoPlanet Bamboo has been an investment and technical partner of Initiative 20x20 since its inception. However forest landscape restoration has been an inherent part of EcoPlanet Bamboo's investment strategy since the company's formation in 2010.
Initiative 20×20 is a country-led effort to bring 20 million hectares of land in Latin America and the Caribbean into restoration by 2020. It is led by WRI, in association with CATIE, CIAT, and IUCN.< Back to news < Download article
