Targeting Sustainable Development
21st January 2015
Contributing to the reduction in poverty and addressing global issues around sustainable development is one of the three pillars on which EcoPlanet Bamboo was built (Economic - Environmental - Social). Since the company's inception in 2010, we have worked within a strict framework of how such development occurs.
Most of our community and sustainable development projects occur within the areas of influence of our commercial bamboo plantations, in Nicaragua, South Africa and more recently Ghana.
Although an inherent part of our operations, EcoPlanet Bamboo recently decided to formalize this aspect of our business model, through the creation of EcoPlanet Foundation. Each year the EcoPlanet Foundation carries out targeted projects, predominantly within the communities, villages and rural towns surrounding each of EcoPlanet Bamboo's operations, currently focused in Nicaragua, South Africa and Ghana. These projects occur within three difference mechanisms:
(1) Quarterly community days - tangible projects that can better the lives of our target communities;
(2) Community development plans - longer term projects focused on sustainably developing our target communities;
(3) Training & awareness days - special events targeting trainings and a focus on environmental education.
EcoPlanet Bamboo's Foundation works hand in hand with local and international partners, to address local poverty, and achieve international sustainable development goals.
