EcoPlanet Bamboo supports Uhambo
8th May 2013
EcoPlanet Bamboo has partnered with Uhambo to bring a life changing program to over 100 children with disabilities in South Africa.
Disabled and wheelchair bound children are often the most marginalized within Xhosa communities already suffering from extreme poverty. The inability of families to be able to provide appropriate or sufficient wheelchairs, let alone basic care means that such children simply do not have the opportunity to play, learn, or live beyond their disability.
Through an integrated program Uhambo is providing such children with appropriate wheelchairs - the first step in transforming lives. In addition the organization provides special communication aids, games and activities in rural and disadvantaged South Africa enabling children with a chance to play, learn and reach developmental goals never thought possible.
In addition support is extended to staff and families, in order to enable children in wheelchairs to become fully integrated individuals within a community. Uhambo provides support groups to parents, educates the community about disabilities and creating opportunities for social inclusion and teaching play.
EcoPlanet Bamboo is an equal opportunity employer, providing employment to rural communities in South Africa and Central America, and is proud to support Uhambo's vision.< Back to news < Download article
