EcoPlanet Bamboo Represents Private Sector at UNFF10
12th April 2013
For the first time since its inception the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) has turned its focus to the role the private sector can play in safeguarding the world's forests.
Through participating in an innovative side event - "Assessing the Economic & Social Contributions of Forests: Implications for the Private Sector Role in Forest Financing" - EcoPlanet Bamboo had the opportunity to provide insights into how the Company's operations contribute to achieving UNFF goals of sustainable forest management coupled with social and environmental benefits.
Key topics raised included:
- How to overcome the risk associated with investing significant long term capital into countries with poor land tenure and changing policies
- The difference between social and environmental benefits being an after though vs incorporated within a Company's operations, and the inherent associated costs
- The rising global demand for fiber, resulting in increasing interest in the role bamboo plantations can play
Among many others, confirming that when done right, business can be good for the world's forests and forest dependent communities.
In addition to the participation by the private sector representing a shift in mindset from an entity that has previously been focused solely on public and non profit sectors, the inclusion of the role that bamboo plantations can play within the global forestry sector marks a major milestone for EcoPlanet Bamboo,< Back to news < Download article
