EcoPlanet Bamboo at Forest Day 6 during COP18

28th November 2012

A delegation from EcoPlanet Bamboo has been selected to promote bamboo at Forest Day 6, the most influential global event on forests.

Forest Day 6 takes place during the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s (UNFCCC) Conference of Parties (COP) 18 in Doha, Qatar. Forest Day serves as a platform for ensuring forests are high on the climate change agenda, and for driving that agenda with informed knowledge and experience from global experts.

In its 6th year, Forest Day is focused on the theme of “Living Landscapes: Solutions for a Sustainable World”, aiming to further examine forests and agricultures’ impact on people and society. Chosen from hundreds of entries, EcoPlanet Bamboo will be exhibiting during Forest Day 6, which is attended by over 1000 environmental and policy experts, including official COP18 negotiators.

25% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions come from deforestation and negative land use change, which exacerbates climate change. Through the reforestation of degraded lands with bamboo forest ecosystems, EcoPlanet Bamboo’s bamboo plantations are living carbon sinks. Case in point, our recent VCS validation for our Central American Guadua bamboo plantations will sequester 816,000 tons of carbon dioxide over a 20 year period.

Sustainably produced and harvested, our FSC™ certified bamboo will provide a source of alternative fiber to wood manufacturing and timber-based companies, which will alleviate pressure on the demand for traditional timber products and thus curb deforestation.

EcoPlanet Bamboo’s participation at Forest Day 6 arises the global profile of bamboo, while advocating for the inclusion of bamboo in the ongoing forestry and climate change debates.

Visit EcoPlanet Bamboo’s exhibition booth at Forest Day 6 from 08:30 – 19:00 on Sunday, December 2nd at the Renaissance Doha City Center Hotel.
